First video of SEXTANTE for ArcGIS

Here is a first video of SEXTANTE for ArcGIS, so you can see what it is like to access the power of SEXTANTE from the popular ESRI product. I recommend to watch full screen or at least at a larger size then the embedded video, to fully see what is going on in the screen...

As you can see, output results are not added automatically to the view (I haven't figured out how to do it yet...and this is the one single thing that I can't find documentation about...Anyone can help??), but the remaining elements of the SEXTANTE-ArcGIS interaction are already implemented and seem to be working pretty fine.

I still want to do some more testing and solve a few minor issues, but everything is going fine and the next version of SEXTANTE will for sure ship with fully-working ArcGIS bindings

We are all very excited about this development, since it means a big step in the (short but intense) history of SEXTANTE :-)

Great work, heard of you thru my friend James Fee. To link your processes in ArcGIS, I suggest you use Model Builder in the Spatial Analyst extension to concatenate them. It's a tool I use a lot, can send my blog or slideshare links if you're interested. Hasta luego, Andrew

Andrew,

Thanks for your suggestions. We still have to test the SEXTANTE algorithms in the Model Builder. We are making them work from the toolbox, and later we will try from the Model Builder, since taht might need some additional developments.

By the way, is great to know that such a relevant blogger as James talks about us :-) Say thanks to him from the SEXTANTE team!

When will it be available, and is it for ArcMap 10.0 or 10.1?

Hi

SEXTANTE for ArcGIS work ArcGIS version 9.3.1 or larger. I hope a first version will be ready in less than a month, and we will prepare a package to make it easier to install.

Regarding its processing speed in comparison with gvSIG, the raster processing part is faster because it inner architecture is different, since I had to redesing some classes to fit into how the ArcGIS toolbox works.

I did some benchmarking and, susprisingly, also other task not using the underlying GIS (like creating a large number or objects or copying arrays of objects) work faster when called from ArgGIS instead of gvSIG.

I haven't done any benchmarking with the vector reading/writing capabilities

¡Eres el punto amo! - Con perdón.

I am waiting to work with sextant on arcgis. An interrelation through the Model Builder with sextant and grass would be very fruitful. Sincerely, I think, in the long term, ArcGIS Desktop will be a product of low cost but free. ESRI will look for the business in other services.

Thank you for your work.

Oliver.

I have been searching about this problem and I got it is necessary to be the administrator for executing JavaConfigTool.exe.

I guess this could be the problem Claudiu...

If I get any improvement, I´ll post it.
